ROME --Â The Lady Hawks fell to Delta State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at home.
With the loss, Shorter slips to 1-3-1 on the season and 0-2 in conference play; while the Lady Statesmen move to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the GSC.
Delta State struck early, scoring the first goal of the game before a full minute had ticked off the clock. From there, Shorter fought for the equalizer, coming up with six chances in the opening frame, only to come up short. The Lady Hawks finally broke through, however, in the second half when
Bianca da Silva tallied her first goal of the season on a pass from
Taylor Hendrix to tie the game at 1-1 with just under thirteen minutes to play.
With the game tied, each team looked for the go ahead, with the Lady Statesmen coming up with it in the 87th minute for the 2-1 score.
In total, the Lady Hawks held a narrow 9-8 advantage in shots; while both teams placed four on target.

Sydney Durham made two saves in goal, while da Silva led the attack with three shots in the game.
The Lady Hawks will be on the road for the next four games, with their first stop coming at Union on Friday, September 22. Game time is set for 6:00pm ET.Â
