MEMPHIS --Â Christian Brothers swept the doubleheader with the Hawks Friday afternoon, taking the opener 2-0, before coming from behind to take the finale 5-4.
Shorter slips to 22-23 overall and 11-20 in the GSC; while the Bucs improve to 14-33 on the year and 9-23 in conference play.
In the opener, Christian Brothers held the Hawks scoreless while tallying a run each in the fourth and seventh to earn the 2-0 win.
While, in game two Shorter led for most of the game after taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from
Isaiah Maddela and a 2-run single from
Raul Cortes. The Bucs tacked on a run in the fourth to cut into the lead, but the Hawks answered in their half of the fifth on a double down the right field line from
Patrick Sanderson to regain the 3-run advantage, 4-1.
The sixth inning proved to be the difference as Christian Brother rallied for four runs to take a 5-4 lead. The score held despite the Hawks' loading the bases in the seventh, but they weren't able to push a run across as the Sanderson and Micha Wyatt were retired to end the game.
Jacob Ramos took the loss in game one, allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and nine strikeouts through a complete game performance. While,
Jesse Wheeler was tabbed for the loss in the game two; allowing one run on two hits through .1 innings.
Sanderson, Wyatt and
Ivan Nunez each tallied two hits in the game two; while three different Hawks posted a hit in game one.
Shorter will look to end the season on a high note in the finale for both teams. Game time from Memphis is set for 1:00pm ET Saturday afternoon.
