MEMPHIS --Â The Hawks closed out the season on a high note Saturday afternoon, topping Christian Brothers 11-8 on the road.
Shorter finishes the year 23-23 overall and 12-20 in conference play; while the Bucs closed out the year 15-34 and 9-24 in the GSC.
The Hawks jumped out to big lead, scoring the game's first nine runs.
Jack Leech gave Shorter a 1-0 lead in the first inning, plating
Nate Butterworth on an RBI double to right center.
Before breaking through for eight runs in the sixth to pull away. The first run of the inning came as Butterworth came in on a Leech single, who then scored on a bases-loaded walk to
Steven Maier.
Jake Harrelson provided an RBI single to bring in
Dustin Lawson, and was followed by
Raul Cortes with 2-run double to make it a 6-0 game.
William Winslow added an RBI single to bring in Cortes, before Leech delivered an RBI double in his second at bat of the inning.
CBU answered in the bottom of the inning for a run, only to have the Hawks tack on two in the seventh on an RBI triple from
Ty Cherry and a sacrifice fly from Cortes to make it an 11-1.
The Bucs score four in the seventh, two in the eight and one in the ninth for the 11-8 final score.
Leech led the Hawks with three hits and four RBI on the afternoon. Butterworth chipped in with two hits, while nine other players added a hit.
Jonathan Pintaro earned the win, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts through six innings of work.
