ROME -- The Hawks fell to West Alabama Saturday afternoon 7-4 at home.
With the loss Shorter moves to 20-21 overall and 9-18 in conference play; while the Tigers improve to 28-14 on the season and 17-10 in the GSC.
West Alabama took the lead 2-0 in second on a two-run double from Nick Delgado. Only to have the Hawks answer with one in the bottom of the inning to cut into the lead as
Luis Acevedo delivered an RBI single, plating
Isaiah Maddela.
The Tigers countered with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to extend their lead to 5-1. Before, the Hawks cut back into the advantage with two of their own in the seventh.
First as Acevedo connected on his second RBI single of the game, and then as
Patrick Sanderson followed with an RBI single of his own for the 5-3 score.
West Alabama tacked on two in the eighth, while Shorter recorded a run on a fielder's choice for the 7-4 final score.
Acevedo led the day for the Hawks with two hits and two RBI, while
Blaze Vazquez,
Jack Leech, Maddela and Sanderson each finished with one hit apiece.
Tyler Buchanan took the loss, allowing two runs – one earned on no hits with four walks through 1.1 innings.
Shorter will be back in action Wednesday afternoon, April 19, when Georgia College visits the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
