Florence, Ala. -- The Lady Hawks fell to North Alabama Saturday afternoon, 100-70, on the road.
Shorter slips to 8-13 overall and 7-9 in conference play; while the Lions improved to 16-6 on the season and 10-6 in the Gulf South Conference.
Shorter kept things close in the first half, only to have the UNA shoot 75% in the second half to pull away and earn the win.
After the Lions opened the game on a 9-2 run to take their largest lead of the frame; the Lady Hawks answered with a 9-3 run of their own, to cut the lead to one, 12-11 with 3:47 to play in the quarter as
BreAnna Thompson netted her first of 12 points for the game.
Over the next two minutes, the teams traded baskets, with Shorter taking their only lead of the contest, 17-16, when
Taylor Adams hit a layup with 1:44 remaining in the quarter. UNA added a layup and a free throw from Emma Wallen to give the Lions a 19-17 advantage heading into the second quarter.
The Lions opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run to extend their led to 25-17 with 8:11 to play. The Lady Hawks answered over the next four minutes to cut the lead to four (30-26) on a layup from
Jackie Hudson, but that was as close as they would get through the remainder of the game.
North Alabama pulled away, in the second half, using a 16-5 run to start the third quarter and went on to outscore the Lady Hawks 62-37 over the next two quarters to earn the win 100-70.
Adams led Shorter with 29 points and nine rebounds, while three other Hawks' finished in double figures – Hudson (12), Thompson (12), and
Raven Fair (10).
Ivy Wallen, who tallied 31 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, led the Lions. While, E. Wallen (25) and KeKe Gunter (19) finished in double figures, as well.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Thursday night at Mississippi College. Game time is set for 6:30pm EST.
