Huntsville, Ala. --Â Alabama Huntsville outlasted the Hawks, 85-78, in the Rocket City Classic at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala.
With the loss, Shorter moves to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in the GSC; while the Chargers improve to 8-3 on the year and 2-2 in conference play.
After a back-and-forth first half, with Alabama Huntsville holding a one-point, 42-41, advantage at the break, the Chargers pulled away midway through the second to upend the Hawks in the 2nd Annual Rocket City Classic. The Hawks saw their last lead of the game with 13:30 to play in the second half as
Amonte Potter netted a layup on a fastbreak and completed the three-point play with a free throw for the 57-53 score. From there, however, UAH pulled away; using an 8-0 run to swing the momentum in their favor, 61-57 with 11:19 remaining. Shorter cut the lead back to one on their next possession on a three from
Jonathan Mason. The Chargers then answered with a 14-5 run to pull away late and close out the 85-78 win.
Four players finished in double figures for Shorter, led by a 22-point effort from Potter. Both,
Josh Burnett and
Jacob Newman, finished with 18 points; while Mason added 11. Burnett and Mason each posted double-doubles for the night with 11 and 10 rebounds apiece, respectively.
The Chargers were led by Justin Ward's 25 points; while four others added double figures as well.
Shorter returns to action after the first of the year when West Florida visits the Winthrop-King Centre for an 8:00pm start on January 2.Â
