Valdosta, Ga. -- Down two sets to the none, the Lady Hawks came back to win the final three sets to earn the 3-2 win over Valdosta State on the road Thursday evening.
With then win, Shorter improves to 19-8 overall and 11-4 in the GSC; while the Blazers move to 12-16 on the year and 6-9 in conference play.
To take the lead, Valdosta State used set scores of 25-21 and 25-16, respectively in the opening frames. Before Shorter closed the gap and forced the tiebreaker with 25-23 and 25-10 wins in sets three and four. And, completed the victory with a 15-13 win in set five.
Tiffani Estep led the offense with 12 kills on the night; while
Hannah Flack added ten and both,
Kelsi Jones and
Morgan Cleveland, chipped in with nine.
Alli Bell tallied a team high 33 assists, to go along with 15 from Tinsley Fain. At the service line, Cleveland led the effort with four aces.
On defense,
Cheyenne McLemore turned in a career high 30 digs, with Cleveland adding 19 and
Madeline Munroe turning in 18. And, at the net, Estep posted a team high, five blocks – two solo and three assists. Munroe and Jones each had a hand in two, as well.
The Lady Hawks close out the regular season Saturday afternoon at West Florida. Game time is set for 2:00pm ET.
