Golden goal lifts Lady Hawks over Spring Hill

ROME -- The Lady Hawks notched their second win of the year and first in conference play since 2015 as they topped Spring Hill, 1-0, in overtime.

With the win, Shorter moves to 2-11-1 on the season and 1-10 in the GSC; while the Badgers move to 1-14 overall and 0-11 in conference play.

The game remained scoreless through regulation, despite chances on both sides, during which the Lady Hawks held an 11-7 advantage in shots.

In the overtime period, Shorter held the momentum; keeping Spring Hill without a shot, while tallying three of their own. And, the winner came as Amberly Halstead netted a header off a Taylor Hendrix corner kick.

The Lady Hawks best chances in regulation came midway through the second period when they rattled off four shots in a four-minute period, only to come up empty as two went just wide of the goal, one hit off the crossbar and the other was saved.

In total, Shorter led in shots 14-7; while holding a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Corrie Thomas tallied a game high five shots, with three being on frame. Whereas, Halstead and Hendrix each posted three shots for the game with two on goal. Sydney Durham played the complete game in goal, turning four saves through 97 minutes; earning her second clean sheet of the year.

The Lady Hawks return to action on Friday to begin the final home weekend of the year when West Alabama visits for a 5:00pm start.
