Hoover, Ala. -- The Lady Hawks closed out play at the South Region Crossover with a come from behind, 3-2, win over No. 19 Saint Leo.
With the win, Shorter improves to 11-8; while the Lions move to 11-4 on the year.
Saint Leo opened the match with wins in the first two sets, before the Lady Hawks came back to take the final three and the win. Set scores were 20-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, and 15-7, respectively.
For the match, Shorter hit .285; while holding the Lions to a .191 average. The Lady Hawks were also strong at the net, posting 16 total blocks.
Individually,
Tiffani Estep led the attack with 19 kills, a new career high for the senior. While,
Madeline Munroe chipped in with 15 and
Danielle Melton added 10, including the game winner in the final set.
Alli Bell paced the setters with 30 assists to go along with 20 from
Tinsley Fain.
On defense,
Cheyenne McLemore posted 27 digs for the match, while
Morgan Cleveland added 11 and Fain posted 10.
Kelsi Jones led the play at the net for the Lady Hawks, turning in eight blocks. Estep added seven, Cleveland recorded five and
Hannah Flack had a hand in four.
The Lady Hawks return to conference play and the Winthrop-King Centre Tuesday, October 17, when they host Gulf South newcomer, Auburn Montgomery, for a 7:00pm start.
