Montevallo edged past the Lady Hawks, 1-0, Friday afternoon from Varsity Field on the Campus of the University of Montevallo.
With the loss, Shorter moves to 1-10-1 on the season and 0-9 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Falcons improve to 7-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play.
In total, UM out shot the Lady Hawks 16-11, but only held a narrow 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. While, both goalies finished with six saves. The difference, however, came in the 18th minute as Sabrina Amador drew a foul in the box and converted her penalty attempt to put her team up 1-0. The score stood despite chances on both sides to tie or extend the advantage.
Taylor Hendrix tallied five shots in the game with two on target; while both,
Amberly Halstead and
Madison Morlock, chipped in with two apiece.
Sydney Durham finished with five save on the night.
Shorter will look to get back on track Sunday, when they travel to newcomer Auburn Montgomery for a 3:00pm ET start from Montgomery, Ala.
