Rome, Georgia – Despite taking 20 shots, the Hawks men's soccer team came up short against the Anderson Trojans, falling by a 1-0 score.
The Trojans controlled the tempo early, taking three of their four first half shots in the opening 12:25 of the contest. The Hawks first shot came off the foot of Tracey Hall just over 11 minutes into the game, but it was saved by Anderson's keeper, Devon Ashy. Ashy made eight saves and recorded a clean sheet.
The Trojans scored in the 29th minute of the opening period when Brad Du Plooy put the ball in the back of the net.
Anderson had a chance to increase its lead to 2-0 early in the second half, but Austen Trevers made one of his four saves on the night, keeping the Trojan lead at one goal.
Shorter saw its best chance to find the equalizer slip away as Phillip Middlecamp's header hit off the post in the 77th minute. The Hawks had three final chances late in the game as, Mauricio Rancel, Jeremy King, and Middlecamp all took shots. Despite three late attempts, Shorter could not answer and Anderson left Rome, Georgia with a victory.
Anderson improves to 3-0 for the season, while Shorter drops to 0-1.
The Hawks return to play on Saturday, September 10th, at Montevallo. Game time is set for 7:00pm from Montevallo, Alabama.
