Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kraig Doremus

Men's Soccer Defeated at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Men's soccer fell to the Montevallo Falcons on the road Saturday night, 2-0.

The shot attempts were relatively even as Shorter took 15 shots and Montevallo 18. The difference came in shots on goal where the Hawks managed only three, but the Falcons had nine.

Three Shorter players – Jordan Etsio, Jack Power, and Oliver Laycock, all had attempts late in the first half, but none of the three could put the Hawks in front. Instead, Montevallo scored just past the 40-minute mark when Liam Moore notched his first goal of the season off an assist from Zac Keller.

Late in the first period, Shorter had a chance to make the score 1-1 off a corner kick from Richard Coomer but could not convert.

Both teams played evenly in the second half as each squad managed a number of shot attempts. The Hawks had chances midway through the final period as Mauricio Rancel took two shots in a four-minute span. Unable to convert, the Shorter had multiple attempts to find the equalizer late in the contest. In the 86th minute the ball came wide off Power's foot and 45 seconds late Antonio Santarsiero shot the ball high of the goal.

The game took a crazy turn with under a minute remaining. SU's Jack Power took a shot with only 12 seconds left. MU goalkeeper Robert Kuta blocked Power's shot, but as time was about to expire, Montevallo scored again when Oliver Cylkowski netted the Falcons second and final goal of the game.

The loss drops the Hawks to 0-2, while Montevallo picks up its fourth victory of the season.

Shorter returns to action on Monday at home against the North Georgia Nighthawks. Gametime is set for 7:30 p.m. from Rome, Georgia.
