Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lady Hawks fell in their season opener tonight, 1-0, on the road against the Trevecca Narazene Trojans.
Shorter controlled the tempo early, managing two shots in the first 16 minutes of the opening period, but the visitors had only four additional shots over the remaining 74 minutes of action. Trevecca controlled the action, recording 22 shots, compared to 6 for the Lady Hawks. The Trojans had eight corner kicks, while Shorter had none.
With under three minutes remaining in the opening half, Trevecca Nazarene scored what would be the game-winning goal, as Paige McFadden found the back of the net off an assist from Lauren Winters.
The Lady Hawks had chances in the second period.
Corrie Thomas had her shot saved in the 60
th minute and just five minutes later
Taylor Hendrix's shot was blocked by Trevecca's Liz Denton. Shorter had one final shot attempt in the 80
th minute, but the ball came wide off the foot of Hendrix, and the Lady Hawks could not manage the equalizer.
Alden Powell made 7 saves in goal for Shorter, and Denton saved two shots for TNU.
With the loss, Shorter falls to 0-1, while the Trojans improve to 1-1. The Lady Hawks return to action on Friday, September 9
th, at Ben Brady Field in Rome, Georgia. Game time between Shorter and the visiting Martin Methodist Red Hawks is set for 5pm eastern.
