ROME -- The Lady Hawks returned to their winning ways Thursday evening, topping the Wolves of West Georgia, 3-0, at home.
The win improves Shorter to 12-1 on the season and 7-1 in the Gulf South Conference, while West Georgia slips to 3-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks kept the Wolves at bay for the first two sets, turning in scores of 25-13 and 25-9, while UWG put up a fight in the final set, but Shorter escaped with the three-set win by closing out the match with a 25-22 win in the final frame.
On the afternoon, Shorter hit .261; while the Wolves only managed .079 hitting in the match. The Lady Hawks also remained strong at the service line, turning in 15 aces for the game; the most in the single match this season.
Elizabeth Dowd turned in a double-double on the night with 11 kills and 11 digs. While,
Tiffani Estep added eight kills and
Madeline Munroe finished with six. Dowd also led the night with four aces, while
Cheyenne McLemore added three.
Cheyenne Frady and Sophia Stephens chipped in with two apiece.
McLemore led the defensive effort with 16 digs. Shorter posted four blocks on the game with Estep finishing with two assisted blocks.
Shorter will look to stay in the win column Friday evening with West Alabama visits the Winthrop-King Centre for a 7:00pm start.
