ROME, Ga. – Three Lady Hawks scored goals as Shorter topped the Bryan Lions, 3-1, for its first win of the season.
Taylor Hendrix began the scoring for the Lady Hawks when she netted her third goal of the year just 14 minutes into the opening period. After Hendrix gave Shorter a 1-0 advantage, Julia Raymond stretched the lead to 2-0. Raymond took a pass from Cheyenne Golden at the five-yard line in the center of the field and scored her first goal of 2016.
Shorter's scoring stalled until the 37th minute when Corrie Thomas stole a pass from a Bryan player, took four dribbles and put the ball in the back of the net. Thomas' goal gave the Lady Hawks a 3-0 lead at the half.
Bryan took 11 of their 12 shots in the final period but were unable to score until late in the contest. Paige Klose scored with three minutes remaining, but the Lions could not get any closer.
Shorter outshot Bryan 15-12 for the game, including an 11-1 advantage in the first half. Sydney Durham made three saves in goal for the Lady Hawks en route to her first victory of the season.
Shorter improves to 1-6 with the win, while Bryan drops to 6-4.
