ROME, Ga. – Shorter suffered a 5-1 defeat to the No. 13 Lee Lady Flames on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Hawks fall to 0-6 (0-2 GSC), while the win moves Lee to 5-1-1 overall, including a 2-0 record in the Gulf South Conference.
After Lee scored in the 6
th minute to take a 1-0 advantage, Shorter's
Taylor Hendrix converted for the second time this season just three minutes later, as her header snuck past the Lady Flames keeper after a corner kick from
Tabea Kirchner.
Lee scored twice more in the opening period when Kinsey Cichowitz (18
th minute) and Summer Lanter (30
th minute) added goals. The visitors took a 3-1 lead to the locker room.
Shorter trailed by two for the majority of the second half, until Cichowitz and Lanter both added another goal. Cichowitz's second goal came in the 80
th minute, while Lanter scored in the 87
th minute, giving Lee a 5-1 lead.
Alden Powell made one save for the Lady Hawks before leaving the game due to injury midway through the first half.
Sydney Durham made seven saves in relief of Powell. Haley Gribbler made one save for the Lady Flames.
Shorter returns to action on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup against Bryan College. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m., from Rome, Georgia.
