Lady Hawks fall to UWF, 3-1

Pensacola, Fla. -- The Lady Hawks saw their perfect start come to an end as they dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 23 West Florida on the road Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 11-1 on the season and 6-1 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Argos improve to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

The Lady Hawks fell in the first set 25-16, before overcoming the slow start with a win in the second set 25-21, but West Florida answered in the third and fourth – 25-22 and 25-14 – to earn the win.

Tiffani Estep led the attack with 11 kills on the afternoon; while Elizabeth Dowd and Madeline Munroe added 10 each in the loss. Cheyenne Frady dished out 25 assists and Alli bell added 19 for Shorter. Dowd, Frady and Morgan Cleveland also added a service ace on the afternoon.

On defense, four players finished with double figures in digs with Cheyenne McLemore leading the way with 16; while Bell, Dowd, and Frady chipped in with 12 each. At the net, Estep led with 4 blocks – 2 solo and 2 assisted – In the game and BreAnna Thompson had a change in three.

Shorter will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when West Georgia visits the Winthrop-King Centre for a 6:00pm start.
