After topping the 23rd-ranked team in the NCAA DII Friday night, the Lady Hawks followed up the performance with a four-set win over Alabama Huntsville to stay perfect on the season.
With the win, Shorter moves to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Chargers move to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks took the first set 25-19, before falling in the second (25-22) to even things up. Shorter answered in the third and fourth with scores of 25-17 and 25-20, respectively, to win the match 3-1.
Elizabeth Dowd led the team on both sides of the net, tallying 17 kills and 16 digs.
While,
Tiffani Estep added 11 kills and
Madeline Munroe chipped in with 10.
Cheyenne Frady poseted 21 assists in the match, and
Alli Bell added 19 for the Lady Hawks in the win.
Defensively,
Cheyenne McLemore matched Dowd in digs with 16, and Frady added 10 for the Lady Hawks. At the net, the team posted nine blocks, with
Kelsi Jones having a hand in five – three solo and two assisted. Estep added three solo and one assisted; while,
BreAnna Thompson assisted on three.
Shorter will look to keep the perfect streak alive Tuesday, September 20, when they host Union for a 7:00pm start at the Winthrop-King Centre.
