Lady Hawks Fall to Defending to Gulf South Champions

ROME, Ga. – The Lady Hawks fell to the defending Gulf South Conference Champions, North Alabama, 2-0.

The loss drops Shorter to 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in the GSC. North Alabama picks up its first conference win and improves to 2-3 overall.

The Lady Hawks managed only seven shots for the game, while the Lions of UNA took 14. North Alabama scored on its second shot attempt just ten minutes into the contest. On the left side of the field at the 20-yard line, Stacey Weber converted, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Maggie Pruitt and Taylor Hendrix both had chances midway through the opening period, but Lions keeper Kate Webster saved both attempts. The final 20 minutes of the first half were quiet as the two teams combined to take only two shots.

Tabea Kirchner took the Lady Hawks first shot of the final period in the 55th but was unable to tie the game. Shorter had three additional chances in the second thanks to shots by Corrie Thomas, Taylor Hendrix, and Cheyenne Golden, but could not find the equalizer.

"We had chances that could have been goals for us," head coach Ben Birdsong stated.

The Lions added their second goal in the 75th minute when Margarita Sousa scored off an assist from Webber.

Shorter's Alden Powell played a complete game in goal, making six saves . Webster made two saves for North Alabama.
