WALESKA, Ga. -- Junior Taylor Hendrix's first half goal was not enough for the Lady Hawks as they fell to the NAIA's 22nd ranked Reinhardt Lady Eagles, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.
After four early shot attempts, the Lady Hawks finally converted in the 23rd minute when Hendrix scored the team's first goal of 2016 off a cross from Tabea Kirchner. Kirchner crossed the ball from the goal line to Hendrix in the center of the box who snuck the ball past Reinhardt's Taylor Asher for the goal.
The Lady Eagles found the equalizer in the 38th minute. Adrien Merrilles netted a goal off a corner kick from Allie Hale. Merrilles' third goal of 2016 sent the teams to the intermission knotted at one.
Reinhardt took the lead just 14 minutes into the second half. The ball struck an SU defender after a corner by the Lady Eagles and escaped keeper Alden Powell, giving RU a 2-1 advantage.
Reinhardt's Merrilles scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 75th minute of the contest, putting Shorter two goals behind. Despite having two chances in the closing minutes, the Lady Hawks could not answer and fell 3-1.
Alden Powell made six saves for SU, while Taylor Asher saved three shots for the Lady Eagles
The loss puts Shorter at 0-3 for the season, while Reinhardt improves to 5-1.
The Lady Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they begin conference play at home against North Alabama. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Rome, Georgia.
