Central, S.C. -- The Hawks fell to Southern Wesleyan Wednesday evening on the road to move to 13-29 on the season.
Shorter got on the board first; scoring the game's first run on a solo homerun from Blaze Vanquez – his 10th of the season. Only to have the Warriors come back in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own to take the lead.
The Hawks answered in the second to cut the lead to one as
Harrison Hatfield came in on a throwing error by the right fielder on single from
Jacob Ramos, before Southern Wesleyan added a run in the third to bring their lead back to two.
Shorter tallied a run in the fourth on an RBI single from Ramos and took the lead, 5-4, in the fifth as
Raul Cortes and
Sean Acevedo brought in runs during back-to-back at bats. Cortes plated Vazquez when he reached on an error, and came in on a passed ball during Acevedo's at bat after stealing second and third to get into scoring position.
The Warriors rallied for three runs on two hits and an error to regain the lead, 7-5, in the sixth, this time for good; adding an additional run in the seventh and eighth. Shorter tacked on a final run in the eighth as
Anthony Borrego was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, for the 9-6 final score.
Dustin Lawson went 3-5 for the night; while Ramos, Vazquez, Acevedo, and
Brian Cabrera each tallied two hits apiece.
Micah Wyatt took the loss for the Hawks, allowing four runs on three hits with a walk through 3.2 innings of work.
