INDIANAPOLIS -- The offensive struggles continued Saturday afternoon for the Shorter men's lacrosse as they fell to UIndy 17-6.
With the loss, the Hawks slip to 1-4 on the year; while the Greyhounds improve to 3-0 overall.
UIndy took the lead 1-0 with a goal at the 12:15 mark of the first period, but Shorter quickly answered to go up 2-1 as
Zachery Dirkse and
Tyler Kristiansen went back-to-back with 8:13 to play. Only to have the Greyhounds add two unanswered goals to close out the first period with a 3-2 advantage.
Aswan Bland opened the second quarter for the Hawks with his first goal of the day with 12:40 to go in the quarter. UIndy added two of their own in the next five minutes to maintain the advantage, before Bland struck for a second time to cut the lead to one (5-4) with 3:12 to play. Parker Kump tallied a final goal for the Greyhounds to send the game to halftime with a 6-4 score.
Each team added a goal in the third period to make it a 7-5 game entering the final fifteen minutes - the Hawks goal game from

In the final period, UIndy came alive, tallying ten goals; while keeping the hawks to one for the 17-6 final scores. Shorter's lone score of the quarter came as
Joshua Skinner netted a pass from
Jack Currier with just over three minutes remaining.
The Greyhounds held a narrow advantage in shot, 44-41; also leading in shots on goal 33-20. While, both teams finished with 28 ground balls.
Garry Robinson played the complete game in goal; making 16 saves.
Shorter will return to action next week, for two home game. First, hosting Davis & Elkins on Tuesday at 2:00pm, and then as Belmont Abbey comes to Rome on Saturday for a 1:00pm start.
