Kristiansen nets 10 in Hawks win over Davis & Elkins

ROME -- The Hawks came out firing Tuesday afternoon, scoring the game's first seven goals, en route to a 26-4 win over Davis & Elkins at Ben Brady Field.

Shorter (2-4) didn't waste any time getting the offense going, tallying the first score of the day a little over a minute into the contest when Matt Kristiansen netted his first goal of the day. From there the hits kept coming as five different Hawks scored multiple times, and M. Kristiansen tallied a career high, 10 goals, on the afternoon.

Shorter led 9-1 after the first frame with Kristiansen leading the effort with four scores in the quarter. Joining him in the goal column for the period was Alex Malinowski and James VandenBrink with two apiece; while Aswan Bland and Andrew King each tallied one.

The Hawks added four more goals in the second quarter while keeping the Senators (0-2) scoreless for the frame to take a 13-1 lead into the intermission. Kristiansen bookended the scoring for the period, while VandenBrink and Malinowski turned in the two in the middle.

Kristiansen, once again, got the scoring going in the third, netting his 7th goal of the afternoon with 14:20 to play in the frame to begin a four goal run to bring Shorter's advantage to 17-1. Ian Nelson then broke the scoreless streak for D&E with a goal at the 10:33 mark in the quarter. Kristiansen and Chad Halili - the first of his career - went back to back to make it a 19-2 game with 7:55 to go, before Zach Cotoni turned in a goal for the Senators with a minute to play. Tyler Kristiansen then got in on the action with a score of his own seconds later for the Hawks to give Shorter a 20-3 lead going into the final fifteen minutes.

Shorter scored five goals to start the fourth quarter. VandenBrink with his fifth of the game started things off with 13:06 to play; then King tallied his second of the day, before M. Kristiansen posted his ninth with 12:22 remaining and Stephan Stanfill and T. Kristiansen closed out the run with back-to-back scores. D&E's final goal of the game came with 7:34 to play, before M. Kristiansen posted the game's final goal with 5:05 on the clock.

In total, the Hawks outshot the Senators 54-17, while hold a 39-11 advantage in shots on goal, 43-15 in ground balls, and 26-7 in face-off wins.

M. Kristiansen also added an assist on the day to have a hand in 11 of the Hawks goals; while VandenBrink added two assists to go along with his five goals. Jack Currier posted a team high three assists on the day. Joshua Skinner, he Hawks main face-off man, when 16-17 in face-offs for the day with a game high 14 groundballs. Michael Williams and Morgan DeNoers led the defense for Shorter with three caused turnovers each; while Colin Doyle, Aswan Bland and T. Kristiansen caused two each.

Shorter goalie, Garry Robinson turned in seven saves on 11 shots on goal.

For the Senators, Patrick Schneck had a hand in each of the team's goals on the day, scoring two and assisting on two.

The Hawks will now turn their attention to No. 19 Belmont-Abbey; who visits Ben Brady Field Saturday for a 1:00pm start.
