Hawks Fall to UNA, 8-1

The Shorter Hawks dropped game three of the series to the visiting North Alabama Lions, 8-1.

Shorter now possesses a 7-8 record with a 1-5 mark in the Gulf South Conference, while UNA stands at 10-3 and has won five of six conference games.

The Lions scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning as first baseman Kyle Hubbuch homered to right field. North Alabama added three runs the following inning thanks to a 3-run home run off the bat of Kevin Hall.

Shorter began the bottom off the third with a single by Sean Acevedo. Acevedo advanced to second on a Tyler Cates sacrifice bunt and got to third on a throwing error after a Brian Cabrera single. Unfortunately, Acevedo was left stranded on third base.

The visitors added to their lead in the fifth as Hubbuch hit his second home run of the game. In the seventh, North Alabama added two runs, extending its lead to 8-0.

The Hawks scored their lone run in the bottom of the ninth when Blaze Vazquez homered over the left field wall. Jacob Ramos singled with two outs, but the Hawks were unable to put anyone else on the base paths and fell to the Lions, 8-1.

Shorter managed six hits, compared to 11 for North Alabama. The Hawks left five runners on base.

Sophomore Michael Weiksner took the loss for SU, giving up seven hits and four earned runs over 3.1 innings. North Alabama's Riley Sanderson pitched a complete game and earned the win.

The Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday, March 2nd when they host the Georgia College Bobcats. First pitch is set for 2 PM EST from the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
