ROME -- The Lady Hawks are one step closer to a second Gulf South Conference regular season title, as they moved into sole possession of first place in the league standings with a 3-0 win over Lee on senior night at the Winthrop-King Centre Thursday night.
Shorter improves to 21-6 on the season and 16-3 in the GSC; while the Lady Flames slip to 14-14 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
Tournament seeding will have to wait a few more days, though, as Thursday's game was just one of two on the evening across the league. Most other teams play Friday – including a matchup between West Florida and North Alabama; with the winner a likely tie with Shorter for the regular season title, should the Lady Hawks win their match Saturday.
Shorter made quick work of the Flames; tallying 25-22, 25-19, and 25-19 wins, respectively, for the night.
Tiffani Estep led the attack for the Lady Hawks, turning in a match high 13 kills; while also posting a match high seven blocks.
Elizabeth Dowd also recorded double figures in kills; tallying 10 for the game.
Morgan Cleveland led in aces with two of the Lady Hawks' four; while
Kelsi Jones and Dowd turned in one.
Cheyenne Frady finished with 22 assists for the game, to go along with 11 from
Alli Bell.
On the receiving end, Dowd led the effort with 17 digs; while
Cheyenne McLemore turned in 14 and Cleveland chipped in with nine. At the net, in addition to Estep's seven,
BreAnna Thompson finished with four for the game and
Madeline Munroe posted two.
Shorter will look to keep its home streak perfect for the season, Saturday when they welcome Mississippi College for a 1:00pm start.
