ROME, Ga. – The Lady Hawks played two overtime periods against the Spring Hill College Badgers, but after 110 minutes of play, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Each team managed four shots in the first period but neither squad went ahead, and the score remained 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes.
In the second period, Shorter outshot Spring Hill 10-7. Lora Bruce had two solid shots on goal in the first three minutes of the period, but her first attempt hit off the crossbar, while the second shot was wide. One minute later, Corrie Thomas quickly followed with a shot of her own, and Hailey Johnston added a header, but neither player could score.
It was Bruce who put the Lady Hawks ahead in the 73rd minute, scoring off a pass from Thomas. The lead did not last long though, as Spring Hill tied the contest just three minutes later. Neither the Badgers or Shorter scored again, and after 90 minutes of play the two teams headed to overtime.
The Lady Hawks had ample chances to score in the two overtime periods, with Julia Raymond, Cheyenne Golden, and Tabea Kirchner all attempting to secure the victory. Despite the opportunities, Shorter was unable to score, but Alden Powell managed to hold SHC scoreless after the 76th minute, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Powell made six saves for the game, while the Badgers Kayla Beaston and Hannah Shankman combined for three.
The Lady Hawks are now 1-9-1 on the year, with an 0-5-1 record in Gulf South Conference action. Spring Hill now stands at 0-8-3 overall and 0-5-2 in the GSC
Shorter returns to action next Friday, October 14, against the Alabama Huntsville Chargers. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m eastern from Huntsville, Alabama.
