Women's Soccer Falls to UAH, 3-1

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Despite Tabea Kirchner's goal off a pass from Taylor Hendrix, Shorter came up short, falling to Alabama Huntsville, 3-1.

The loss drops to Shorter to 1-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in conference play, while the Chargers of UAH move to 7-6 overall and 3-5 in the GSC with the victory.

The Lady Hawks had chances to score early, as Chanel Mosley took a header just four minutes into the contest, but her attempt was saved. Shorter took four more shots in the opening half, including tries in the 39th and 40th minute by Hendrix and Lora Bruce, but neither played scored.

UAH went ahead in the 42nd minute, taking a 1-0 lead into the half.

In the final period, Shorter quickly found the equalizer, tying the contest in the 51st minute, thanks to a goal by Kirchner, her first of 2016. With the score tied at one, the Chargers scored in the 69th and 73rd minutes, taking a 3-1 lead.

Down 3-1, the Lady Hawks had attempts late by Corrie Thomas, Mosley, and Hendrix, but they were unsuccessful.

For the night, Shorter took 12 shots, and UAH managed an additional six attempts, finishing with 18 in all.

Alden Powell made 10 saves in goal for SU, while the Chargers Larae Breaux made eight.

The Lady Haws return to action on Sunday as they play their second consecutive road game, this time against the West Alabama Tigers. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. from Livingston, Alabama.
