LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lady Hawks fell to West Alabama, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops Shorter to 1-11-1 on the season and 0-7-1 in the Gulf South Conference. The Tigers of UWA improve 8-5-1 with a 6-2-1 mark in the GSC.
In the first period, senior Tabea Kirchner took the Hawks only two shots of the half, but came up empty as both were saved. West Alabama scored on a penalty kick and took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.
Over the final 29 minutes of the opening period neither team scored, and at the half Shorter trailed 1-0.
Maggie Pruitt had the Lady Hawks best look of the contest, but her attempt in the 66th minute hit off the crossbar, and SU could not get on the scoreboard. The Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 in the 79th minute.
In the 81st minute, Alexa Moore had her shot blocked, which was quickly followed by an attempt by Corrie Thomas. Thomas' shot was saved by UWA keeper, Issy Foster, who made three saves in the contest.
Alden Powell faced 15 shots from the Tigers and saved four.
With their road trip complete, the Lady Hawks return to action on Friday, October 21, against Delta State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. from Shorter University's Ben Brady Field
