Three Unanswered Goals Lead Hawks Past Spring Hill

ROME, Ga. – Darwin Lom scored three goals to lead the Hawks men's soccer team past Spring Hill, 3-2.

In a physical game that featured three ejections and three yellow cards, Shorter outshot the Badgers, 31-9. The Hawks took 15 shots in the first period, and another 16 in the second half.

Mauricio Rancel attempted four shots in the game's first 25 minutes, but none of his tries found the back of the net. In the 42nd minute Lom shot the ball off the post but did not score, as all three of his goals came in the second half.

Spring Hill (1-8-1, 1-5 Gulf South Conference) got on the board first, scoring in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the half.

In the second, the Badgers quickly extended their advantage to 2-0 by they converting a penalty kick.

Down 2-0, Lom led the Hawks (4-4-1, 3-0-1 GSC) to a comeback victory, scoring three goals over the final 43 minutes. His first goal did not come until the 60th minute, when after having his shot blocked, he was fouled in the box and given a penalty kick. The sophomore converted the PK to cut Spring Hill's lead to a single goal.

Two minutes later, Lom found the equalizer, with Antonio Santarsiero receiving the assist.

Over the next 17 minutes, shots by Jeremy King, Rancel, and Lom were all off the mark, but Lom was fouled in the box a second time with just 12 minutes remaining in the contest. He converted his second penalty kick of the day, giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead, which they did not relinquish.

Austen Trevers made three saves, while the Badgers Will Carpenter made 15.

Shorter returns to action next Friday against Gulf South Conference opponent Alabama Huntsville. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. eastern from Huntsville, Alabama.
