HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Things did not go Shorter's way Friday night, as the Hawks fell to the Alabama Huntsville Chargers, 4-1.
The Hawks took five shots in the contest, with two of the five tries being on goal. Felix Guijosa took four of Shorter's attempts, but it was Darwin Lom who scored the Hawks lone goal of the game.
Alabama Huntsville took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, but Lom, a sophomore and SU's leading goal scorer, tied the game at one, just five minutes later. His header from eight yards out found the back of the net, and was assisted by Mauricio Rancel.
The two teams remained deadlocked at one until the 53rd minute when UAH's James Narke scored his second goal of the game, putting the Hawks behind, 2-1. UAH scored twice more and defeated Shorter, 4-1.
Austen Trevers made three saves for the visiting Hawks, while Myles Fullen made a single save for the Chargers.
Shorter now stands at 4-5-1, with a 3-1-1 mark in Gulf South Conference play. Alabama Huntsville improves to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in conference games.
The Hawks continue conference play on Sunday, against the West Alabama Tigers. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Livingston, Alabama.
