Men's Soccer Ties West Florida, 1-1

ROME, Ga. – In a game that featured two overtimes and 110 minutes of action, the Hawks tied West Florida, 1-1.

Shorter outshot UWF 20-12, but it was the Argonauts that scored the first goal, as Chandler Castleman put his team ahead in the 39th minute. SU's Jordan Etsio had a chance to even the score before the half, but his attempt was saved, and the Hawks ended the first period behind by a single goal.

West Florida controlled the tempo in the opening minutes of the second half but could not convert despite having three chances. Mauricio Rancel took the Hawks first shot of the second period in the 67th minute and found the back of the net, tying the score at one.

Over the final 24 minutes, Shorter had five opportunities to score with Antonio Santarsiero, Federico Cordiano, and Jack Power all taking shots off corner kicks. Darwin Lom's header in the 79th minute was the Hawks final shot of regulation.

With the score tied 1-1, the two teams headed for overtime. In the first overtime period, Etsio and Lom each took shots late, but neither player could secure a victory for the home team. The final overtime session featured three yellow cards, and Justen Macias took the Hawks only shot, coming up empty, as the Hawks and Argonauts tied, 1-1.

Austen Trevers made five saves in goal for Shorter, while West Florida's Phil D'Amico made nine.

The Hawks return to action Sunday against the Spring Hill College Badgers. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., from Ben Brady Field in Rome, Georgia.
