Men's Soccer Secures First Round Tournament Bye With Win Over Lee

ROME, Ga. – Men's soccer defeated the Lee Flames 2-1 on senior night and secured the No. 2 seed in the Gulf South Conference tournament.

Each team took 13 shots in the contest with Lee holding a slight 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Darwin Lom scored the game's first goal, putting Shorter ahead 1-0 in the 29th minute. Federico Cordiano assisted on the goal, which was Lom's 10th of 2016.

After Lom's goal both the Flames and Hawks had chances. Austen Trevers saved Lee's attempt in the 33rd minute, one of five shots he saved over the course of the contest. Shorter's Felix Guijosa had his try in the 37th minute blocked, while Lee's Daniel Hrenko saved an attempt by Mauricio Rancel.

In the second period, Antonio Santarsiero took the Hawks first two shots of the half. His first attempt was high of the goal, but his second try, which came off a pass from Rancel, found the back of the net and gave Shorter a 2-0 advantage.

For the remainder of the half, Cordiano, Santarsiero, and Rancel all took shots but came up empty. Lee's David Perez scored with only 18 seconds remaining, but the Hawks held on, winning 2-1.
