CLINTON, Miss. – The Hawks concluded their season today with a 1-0 loss to the West Florida Argonauts in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference tournament.
Shorter ends its 2016 campaign with a 7-6-2 record. The team finished 6-1-2 in conference play.
With the victory, West Florida advances to the GSC championship and will face the winner of the West Alabama versus Mississippi College contest. The Argos currently boast a 10-5-2 record.
In the tournament's first semifinal game, the Hawks outshot UWF 16-14 and held a 6-3 advantage in corners, but West Florida's Kameron Bethell scored the only goal of the contest in the 37th minute.
All-GSC honorees
Darwin Lom and
Mauricio Rancel combined to take 8 of Shorter's 16 attempts but neither played could find the equalizer. Lom took six shots, with two being on goal, while Rancel managed two attempts.
Three other players,
Felix Guijosa,
Antonio Santarsiero, and
Justen Macias also took two shots each for the Hawks.
West Florida had seven shots on goal but Shorter's
Austen Trevers saved six. Â The Argos Phil D'Amico saved four attempts.
