ROME, Ga. – The Lady Hawks fell on senior day to the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws 1-0.
In the first, despite the fact that Mississippi College controlled the tempo and took nine shots, the Lady Hawks defense, anchored by
Chanel Mosley, did not allow a goal. Goalkeeper
Alden Powell made three of her eight saves in the opening half.
Although the game was scoreless at the intermission, the Lady Choctaws scored the game-winning goal in the 47th minute when Caitlin Hayes converted a header off a corner from Lauren Kate Carter.
The Lady Hawks had chances in both the 56th and 60th minutes, but headers by
Madison Morlock and
Julia Raymond were both saved.
Shorter's final attempt of the day, a 15-yard attempt by
Maggie Pruitt, was wide of the goal, and the Lady Hawks fell by a 1-0 score.
The loss drops SU to 1-13-1 overall and 0-9-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College improves to 10-4-1 and 7-2-1 in conference.
Shorter's
Alden Powell made eight saves. Gabby Kayser saved two shots for the Lady Choctaws. For the game, the Lady Hawks were outshot 17-3.
Shorter will play two straight road games to close out the season. First up is West Georgia on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
