ROME, Ga. – For the second consecutive game the Hawks played extra time, this time battling the Mississippi College Choctaws to a scoreless draw.
Although neither team scored in the 110-minute contest, Shorter took 14 shots and the Choctaws 11. Â The Hawks also led with six shots on goal, compared to just four for Mississippi College.
Four different Shorter players had shots in a two-minute span late in the first, but all players came up empty. Jeremy King and Antonio Santarsiero's shots were saved, and tries by Darwin Lom and Phillip Middlecamp were blocked and high of the goal.
In the final regulation period, Mauricio Rancel had two early shots but could not manage to score. Rancel also had an attempt in the 78th minute, but his try from 10 yards away hit off the post, then bounced off the crossbar before being napped by the Mississippi College keeper.
The Choctaws had a chance with three minutes remaining, but the two teams headed to OT with the score tied at zero.
Although the Hawks had no shots in the first 10 minutes of overtime, both Rancel and Lom looked to secure the victory for the home team in the game's final overtime period. Both their shots were saved, and the game ended in a scoreless tie.
