MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The scoreboard was unkind to the Lady Hawks this afternoon, as they fell the Christian Brothers Lady Bucs, 1-0.
The game was scoreless until the 77th minute when Christian Brothers scored what would be the game winning goal.
Despite the loss, Shorter (1-8, 0-4) had ample chances to score, outshooting the Lady Bucs (3-7, 3-3), 10-6. Corrie Thomas' shot in the 13th minute, the Lady Hawks first of the contest, was saved, and Maggie Pruitt's attempt just two minutes later was blocked.
With just over ten minutes to go in the first half, Shorter had three chances as Chanel Mosley, Madison Morlock, and Cheyenne Golden all took shots but were unable to put their squad ahead.
The first 20 minutes of the final period were quiet for both teams until the Lady Hawks took several attempts starting in the 70th minute. Morlock and Thomas both had headers off of corner kicks from Tabea Kirchner, while Pruitt's second shot of the contest was blocked. SU's final shot of the afternoon, a header by Hailey Johnston was wide, and just minutes later the Lady Bucs scored the game-winning goal.
Sydney Durham made one save for the Lady Hawks, while Emily Wragg recorded a clean sheet for Christian Brothers, making one save.
Shorter will regroup before looking to record its first Gulf South Conference victory of the year against West Florida. Kickoff between the Lady Hawks and Argonauts is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, October 7, from Ben Brady Field.
