ORLANDO -- Entering the weekend the Lady Hawks hadn't lost three games total – much less three in a row – but taking on three teams ranked in the AVCA Top 25 proved to be too much, as Shorter closed out the weekend at the GSC/SSC Crossover with a 3-0 loss to No. 22 Florida Southern.
With the loss Saturday, the Lady Hawks slip to 14-5 on the season; while the Mocs improve to 12-4 overall.
After falling 25-11 in the first set, Shorter stepped things up in the final two frames, but ultimately fell by scores of 25-21 and 25-22, respectively.
On offense,
Madeline Munroe and
Tiffani Estep led the Lady Hawks as both tallied five kills for the match; while both,
Morgan Cleveland and
Hannah Flack added four apiece.
Cheyenne Frady led the way in assists on the afternoon with 13, and was followed by
Alli Bell with 12. And, at the service line
Elizabeth Dowd,
Cheyenne McLemore and Cleveland each finished with one ace.
On defense, McLemore and Dowd were the only two players to finish in double-figures in digs with McLemore leading the way with 17 and Dowd chipping in with 16. And, at the net, Estep had a hand in three of the Lady Hawks' five blocks.
Shorter will look to get back to the win column next week as they travel to Alabama Huntsville and North Alabama on October 21 and 22, respectively. The Lady Hawks won each of the previous meetings this season.
