Adams Leads Lady Hawks in Defeat of CBU

No one had an answer for Shorter Lady Hawk Taylor Adams tonight. The junior forward finished with a game high in both points and rebounds in a 58-46 win over Christian Brothers. Adams scored 22 points on 8 of 17 shooting, including a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. She pulled down 17 boards with 7 being offensive.

"She's one of the better post players in the league," head coach Vic Mitchell said. "We depend on her a lot."

Shakierya McClendon gave the Lady Hawks a 2-0 lead with an early first quarter layup. Shorter would never trail in the contest, and the game was tied for a mere two seconds of play. The Lady Hawks led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter, allowing the Lady Buccaneers to covert only 3 of 12 field goals in the period.

Shorter (12-4, 9-3) increased its lead in the second quarter, thanks in large part to the play of Adams. Adams came alive, scoring 12 of Shorter's 20 points in the period. The Lady Hawks held the Lady Buccaneers of Christian Brothers (6-10, 4-8) to five points, taking a commanding 31-12 lead to the locker room. Shorter shot 36.7% from the field in the first half, compared to only 20.8% for Christian Brothers.

During the third quarter, CBU outscored Shorter 16-12. Courtney Banks's three pointer at the buzzer cut the Lady Hawks lead to 15, 43-28. In the fourth period, the Lady Buccaneers got as close as eight points, cutting the deficit to 48-40. A pair of layups by Tamarr Williams and Adams increased Shorter's lead to 52-40. The ladies from Christian Brother's would get no closer, as they fell by 12.
