ROME --Â In a match that saw almost equal stats, the Blazers edged past Shorter where it counted, topping the Lady Hawks 3-1. By comparison, both teams tallied 55 kills on the night, while Valdosta held a narrow advantage in assists (53-51) and digs (86-79). Shorter did, however, turn in all of the aces for the night; tallying seven through the four set affair.
Set scores were 24-26, 25-15, 22-25, and 20-25, respectively.
Elizabeth Dowd posted a double-double on the night with a team high 12 kills and 21 digs for the Lady Hawks.
Tiffani Estep just missed double figures in kills with nine, and both
Kelsi Jones and
BreAnna Thompson finished with eight.
Dena Pierce was just three assists away from tying her career high posting 33 on the night, while
Cheyenne Frady added 16 for Shorter.
Cheyenne McLemore led the Lady Hawks with 28 digs in the match. Pierce just missed a double-double of her own, adding 9 digs.
