Florence, Ala. --Â Despite a late rally in the final set the Lady Hawks fell to North Alabama 3-0 Friday evening to move to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. The Lions improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Gulf South.
Set scores were 25-23, 25-21, and 31-29, respectively.
In the final set, down by 4 on match point, the Lady Hawks rallied for four points to tie the game.
Tiffani Estep and
Elizabeth Dowd turned in back-to-back kills, followed by a huge block from
Alicia McClellan and Dowd. Thento tie the set
Cheyenne Frady recorded an ace. The teams traded points back and forth, making it a 29-29 game; where UNA then took advantage of a Lady Hawk error and Andrea De Leon tallied the ace to give the Lions the win.
Estep finished the night with a team high 7 kills; while Dowd chipped in with 6. Frady added 13 assists in the match to lead Shorter.
Dena Pierce just missed double-figures in assists with 9 on the night.
Madeline Munroe served up 3 of the Lady Hawks' 5 aces for the game.
Defensively,
Cheyenne McLemore posted 14 digs, Dowd added 11; while both Frady and
Morgan Cleveland finished the night with 7 each. Dowd also assisted on 4 blocks, while Estep chipped in with 3 and McClellan had a hand in two.
