Lady Hawks fall to No. 19 Columbus State

Columbus, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks had their three game win streak snapped on the road Wednesday evening, falling to No. 19 Columbus State 3-1.

The loss drops Shorter to 3-2 on the year, while the Lady Cougars also move to 3-2 with the win.

Chelsea Person put Columbus State on the board in the first minute, but the Lady Hawks didn't give up; fighting back to tie the game twelve minutes later as Jen Rogers converted a penalty kick for her third goal of the season. The score stood through the remainder of the period thanks to four saves in goal from Alden Powell on 17 total shots.

In the second half the Lady Cougars tallied 15 shots, scoring twice to earn the win, while also holding the Lady Hawks to just 2 shots – one from both Rogers and Chanel Mosley. Haley Lademann played the final forty-five minutes in goal, making 6 saves.

Shorter will be back in action next Wednesday evening, September 23, when No. 14 North Alabama visits Ben Brady Field for a 5:00pm start to begin Gulf South Conference play.
