ROME -- The Hawks extended their win streak to four games with a 19-5 victory over Point University Saturday afternoon.
Shorter moves to 7-7 overall with the win, while the Skyhawks go to 4-11 on the year.
James VandenBrink got things going for the Hawks as he scored the day's first goal with 12:44 to play in the first quarter.
Tyler Schott followed two minutes later on a pass from
Jordan Getz; who followed with one of his own. VandenBrink made it two on the day with his second at the 8:38 mark, before
Stephan Stanfill made it a 5-0 game a few seconds later. Point closed out the frame with a goal to make it a 5-1 game going into the second quarter.
It was all Shorter in the second period, however, as they tacked on seven more goals while holding the Skyhawks scoreless.
Ben Janes and
Alex Malinowski each scored twice; while Schott, Getz, and
Tyler Kristiansen added one goal apiece.
Janes, Malinowski, and Getz each scored in the third period for the Hawks; while Point added two to make it a 15-3 game. In the final fifteen minutes Shorter added four goals to the Skyhawks two for the 19-5 final score.
With the exception of
Scott Dangel – who tallied three shots and two ground balls – each of the seniors got in on the scoring as Janes led with four goals on five shots.
Tyler Bradford posted an assist during the final minutes of the game for the first point of his career,
Jordan Butz tallied one goal on three shots, and Schott posted two goals on five shots.
Getz finished the day with three goals and five assists.
Tanner Short played the complete game in goal for Shorter; making six saves on eleven shots faced.
In total, the Hawks outshot Point 50-23, and held a 30-11 advantage in shots on goal. While also leading in ground balls 42-28, and winning 19 of 28 face-offs.
Shorter will now look to keep their win streak going as they travel to Young Harris College to close out the season next Saturday, April 18, for a 7:00pm start.
