Hawks close out season with win over Young Harris

Young Harris, Ga. -- The Hawks finished the 2015 season on a high note, earning a 14-9 victory over Young Harris to extend their win streak to five games.

Shorter finishes with an 8-7 overall record for the season.

The Mountain Lions scored first, but the Hawks didn't back down; tallying back to back goals from Jordan Getz and Andrew King to take a 2-1 advantage only to have Young Harris' Chandler Bradley find the back of the net with thirty-three seconds remaining in the period to  tie the game going into the second frame.

Tyler Kristiansen opened the second period with a goal to give Shorter the lead 3-2 and King followed two minutes later to make it a two point game. The Mountain Lions answered to cut the lead back to one, but the Hawks were there again to extend the lead; this time as Travis Getz and Alex Malinowski provided the goals.

Leading 6-4 at the half, Shorter added to it in the third period with goals from J. Getz and King, while holding Young Harris to two goals to maintain the advantage, 8-6, as the game moved to the final fifteen minutes.

The teams traded goals over the first five minutes of the quarter with the Mountain Lions cutting the lead to one with 10:01 to play. But, the Hawks closed out the period with four consecutive goals from Zachery Dirkse, Kristiansen, James VandenBrink and J. Getz to secure the win 14-9.

In total, Shorter outshot Young Harris 35-34, and held the advantage in shots on goal 26-18. The Mountain Lions tallied 33 ground balls in the game, while the Hawks finished with 21.

JR Willers played the complete game in goal for Shorter; making 9 saves in the game.
