ROME -- The Hawks fell to West Georgia Monday afternoon, 4-3.
The loss moves Shorter to 8-10 on the season and 5-7 in conference play; while the Wolves improve to 17-6 on the year and 11-4 in the GSC.
Bryan Mathews gave the Hawks the lead in the first inning on an RBI single to plate
George Ragsdale and
Dylan Riner.
In the eighth, West Georgia went ahead as two runs scored, and added to the lead in the ninth with two additional runs. Shorter mounted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth as Ragsdale brought in
Frankie Picchiotti on an error from the left fielder with two outs and two on base.
Christian Champion took the loss for the Hawks; allowing two runs on two hits in one inning of work.
In total, Shorter outhit the Wolves 9-5, as Ragsdale delivered three and Riner finished the day with two.
The Hawks will be back in action next weekend as they travel to longtime rival Lee University for a three game Gulf South Conference series set for a doubleheader Saturday and the single game finale Sunday.
