Cleveland, Tenn. -- After falling in the opener 10-9 Saturday afternoon, the Hawks bounced back to win the next two to take the series from Lee on the road. Game scores were 3-1 and 1-0, respectively.
In the second game of the doubleheader Saturday Shorter used a first inning 3-run homer from
Bryan Mathews to earn the win over longtime rival Lee University. The Flames only run came in the fourth inning as Ben Holland delivered a solo homer of his own to break-up the shutout.
Colton Cross earned the win for the Hawks; his first of the season, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts in a complete game performance.
In Sunday's win, Shorter struck in the first inning once again as Mathews delivered an RBI single to plate
George Ragsdale.
The lead held as
Russell Crosby and
Brandon Reynolds combined to blank the Flames. Crosby earned the win; allowing no runs on five hits with one strikeout through seven innings. Reynolds recorded the save; pitching two innings, while allowing no runs on two hits.
The Hawks will return to action Wednesday, March 25, as they host Montevallo for a single game beginning at 3:00pm at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
