Lady Hawks split final homestand

ROME -- The Lady Hawks closed out the home portion of the regular season splitting the final series with Delta State and Mississippi College; Thursday falling to the Lady Statesmen 47-42, and then topping the Lady Choctaws 70-57.

Shorter moves to 12-15 on the season and 8-13 in the Gulf South Conference; while Delta State stands at 16-9 overall and 14-7 in conference play and Mississippi College falls to 8-17 on the year and 4-17 in the GSC.

Thursday against the Lady Statesmen, the Lady Hawks overcame a sluggish first half to use a 13-0 run capped off by a three pointer from Ieshia Alexander to tie the game 33-33 with 12:09 to play. Delta State then used a 5-0 run to regain the lead, and didn't let up despite the Lady Hawks pulling to within one point late on a layup from Cynara Pitt.

Alexander was the lone Lady Hawk to reach double figures in the game as she tallied a game high 14 points.

Saturday against the Choctaws, Shorter took the lead early and didn't look back; building the advantage to as many as 11 in the opening half as they took a 35-26 lead into the intermission. The Lady Hawks shot 44% in the game, 30% from three-point range; while holding Mississippi College to 39% shooting, and 0% from beyond the arc.

Alexander led the Lady Hawks with a game high 19 points, but Tatiana Allen turned in a season high 12 points. Tamarr Williams just missed double figures with 9 points.

Shorter will close out the regular season next Saturday, February 28, as they travel to Cleveland, Tenn. to take on longtime rival, Lee University. Game time is set for 5:00pm.
