ROME -- The Hawks fell to Lindenwood Saturday afternoon, 13-8, at Ben Brady Field.
Shorter moves to 1-3 on the season; while the Lions posted their first win of the year.
The first quarter was back and forth as the Hawks and Lions traded goals to take a 3-3 tie into the second frame. Lindenwood scored first as Brandon Lenz netted a goal before the first minute ticked off the clock. Shorter followed with back to back goals from
Alex Malinowski and
Jordan Getz to take the lead 2-1. The Lions then answered with two of their own to regain the lead, before
Ben Janes found the back of the net with 1:25 remaining in the period to knot the score.
The Lions opened the second quarter with two consecutive goals to take the lead 5-3, both from Connor Eskridge. But, the Hawks once again tied things up as
Scott Dangel and Janes scored at 6:14 and 4:56, respectively. Lindenwood closed of the frame with two goals to take a 7-5 advantage into halftime.
Shorter scored three times in the third period, while holding the Lions scoreless, to take the lead 8-7. Malinowski, Janes, and
Travis Getz provided the goals.
The final fifteen minutes was all Lindenwood as the Lions scored six times to put the game away from the Hawks, and earn the win 13-8.
Janes led Shorter with three goals on the day, while
Zachery Dirkse added three assists.
JR Willers played the complete game in goal for the Hawks, making 10 saves on 23 shots faced.
In the game, Lindenwood outshot Shorter 42-25, and held the advantage 23-17 in shots on goal. The Lions lead in the ground balls 37-23, and won 13 face-offs to the Hawks 12.
Shorter will be back in action March 2 when they travel to Waleska, Ga. to take on Reinhardt University. Game time is set for 2:00pm.
