Hawks fall to Brevard, 10-6

ROME -- The Hawks fell to Brevard College Tuesday afternoon 10-6.

Shorter got things going in the game as Ben Janes recorded back to back goals to put the Hawks up 2-0. The Tornadoes then answered with two of their own to tie the game. Shorter regained the lead with 2:45 to play in the period as James VandenBrink posted his first goal of the season on an assist from Alex Malinowski. Bervard closed out the frame with two unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.

Over then next two periods the Tornadoes scored six times, while holding the Hawks scoreless.

Shorter picked things up in the final fifteen minutes adding three goals for the 10-6 final score. Tyler Kristiansen recorded a goal and an assist in the frame, while Tyler Schott and Jordan Getz chipped in with one goal each.

JR Willers played the complete game in goal for Shorter, making 10 saves.

The Hawks outshot Brevard 30-29 in the game, while the Tornadoes put 20 shots on target to Shorter's 16. Brevard held the advantage 34-23 in groundballs, and won 10 of 19 face-offs.

The Hawks will look to earn their first win of the season Saturday as they travel to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville University; game time is set for 2:00pm.
