MEMPHIS -- Despite a late comeback the Hawks fell to Christian Brothers, 80-75, Saturday afternoon.
Shorter slips to 4-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Bucs improve to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Trailing 34-21 at the break, the Hawks began chipping away in the second half.
Cole Birchfield sparked a late 23-7 run – on a pair of free throws – that cut the lead from 19 to three when
Amonte Potter netted a layup with 3:35, but that was as close as the Hawks would get as the Bucs answered with 12-5 run to keep the advantage and earn the win 80-75.
Phil Taylor led the way with 21 points, while
Trevor McDade posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 steals, and Birchfield added 15 points.
Christian Brothers was led by Drew Hildreth's double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Shorter will look to get back in the win column next Saturday, December 12, when Valdosta State visits the Winthrop-King Centre for a 4:00pm start.
