ROME -- The Hawks evened their season record at 4-4 Saturday afternoon as they fell to Valdosta State 97-77 at the Winthrop-King Centre.
Shorter, who opened the year on a four game win streak has now fallen in each of its last four contests, including going 0-3 so far in the Gulf South Conference. The Blazers improved 7-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win.
Phil Taylor led the offense for Shorter, posting a game high 25 points. While three other Hawks joined him in double figures with
Chris Daniels turning in his first double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Amonte Potter also added 13 points for Shorter, and
Trevor McDade finished with 12.
The Blazers took the lead early and didn't look back, leading by as many as 24 in the second half. Blake Justice led the effort for Valdosta with 25 points, while Jeremiah Hill added 24 and Justin Simon just missed a double-double with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
Shorter will look to get back into the win column Monday, December 14, when West Florida visits the Winthrop-King Centre for an 8:00pm start.
